The 25 Best Vegan Places in Paris: Restaurants, Bakeries, & Cafés — Destination Dreamer Diaries
Paris, and France as a whole, often gets a notorious bad rep for not having many vegan places in Paris – but as someone who has been vegan for almost a decade and has been in Paris for several years now, I can tell you that it’s far from the truth. With nearly 50 fully vegan places to eat in Paris according to HappyCow, rest assured – you’ll never go hungry on a plant-based diet while in Paris, and the options to choose are endless. After having lived in Paris for several years, I’m going to share my curated list of my absolute favorite vegan places in Paris – from restaurants, causal eateries, bakeries, coffee shops, and more. IS PARIS VEGAN FRIENDLY? While there are lots of vegan places in Paris these days, as a whole – Paris and France are not vegan friendly places. The average French restaurant usually has little to no vegan options, as much of traditional French cuisine is made with very rich ingredients such as cheese, butter, and milk. WHAT CAN I EAT VEGAN AT A FRENCH RESTAURANT IN PARIS? If you’re at a traditional brasserie in Paris, your choices for vegan food will be limited, but not impossible – you can order a salade verte (plain green salad), ratatouille (tomatoes, eggplant, and zucchini in tomato sauce), or classic french fries which are almost always fried in sunflower oil. Before we dive into my curated list of the best vegan places in Paris, below is a quick recap of some French words to know if you’re going to be traveling as a vegan in Paris: 🌿🇫🇷 VEGAN FRENCH BASICS — QUICK CARDS 🥖 🧈BEURRE Butter. If you need to avoid it, say “sans beurre, s’il vous plaît.” Croissants, pastries, and many sauces contain butter. 🥚ŒUFS / D’ŒUFS Eggs. Ask for “sans œufs” if you need egg-free. May appear in brioche, mayo, aioli, pastries. 🥛LAIT / PRODUITS LAITIERS Milk / dairy. Say “sans lait / sans produits laitiers.” Many cafés also understand “lait végétal.” 🚫🍖PAS DE VIANDE No meat. Note: in France, “pas de viande” doesn’t always include fish. Add “ni poisson, ni fruits de mer” to exclude fish & seafood. 🌱VÉGÉTARIEN vs VÉGÉTALIEN / VÉGAN Végétarien = no meat/fish (dairy/eggs often OK). Végétalien / végan = no animal products at all. 🪴100% VÉGÉTAL / À BASE DE PLANTES Usually plant-based ingredients. Still scan for honey (miel) or “may contain traces” allergy notes (not ingredients). 🚫🥛SANS LACTOSE ≠ VEGAN “Sans lactose” can still be dairy (lactose-free cow’s milk). Ask for lait végétal instead if you’re vegan. 🥖BAGUETTE ✅ vs CROISSANT ❌ A baguette is typically flour-water-salt-yeast (often vegan). Croissants and most viennoiseries contain butter/eggs. Fruit sorbets are often a safe dessert bet. 🥤LAITS VÉGÉTAUX Soja = soy, avoine = oat, amande = almond. Ask: “Un café avec lait de soja/avoine/amande, s’il vous plaît.” 25 BEST VEGAN PLACES IN PARIS (ACCORDING TO A LOCAL) ABSOLUTE MUST-TRY VEGAN PLACES IN PARIS I’m not one to eat out often, meaning that when I do – it’s a treat. For special occasions like my birthday or a new job offer – these are my top 5 favorite vegan places to eat at in Paris. 1. AUJOURD’HUI DEMAIN Situation in the 11th near Chemin Vert, Aujourd’hui Demain perfectly blends coffee shop vibes with delicious vegan dishes. Often accommodating their menu for seasonal ingredients, my favorite things about Aujourd’hui Demain include how they offer big portion sizes for a reasonable price, American-style sweet coffee drinks, and offer an amazing vegan-concept store within the restaurant. Not to mention, their desserts are almost always a hit too – all of the cakes are delicious. This is one of those vegan places in Paris you can never go wrong. Address: 42 Rue du Chemin Vert, 75011 Paris Price: € Pro-tip: If you plan to come for their brunch (which is amazing), try to come as early as possible or call for a reservation – as it’s always packed on weekends. 2. THE FRIENDLY KITCHEN Another never-fails-to-impress-me vegan place in Paris is The Friendly Kitchen. Also located in the 11th arrondissement, The Friendly Kitchen beautifully blends exquisite dining, seasonal ingredients, and a cozy atmosphere – making it a wonderful place for a date night, whether it be solo or with your favorite person. Address: 8 Rue Popincourt, 75011 Paris Price: €€ Pro-tip: Personally, I love to come here in the autumn – as they offer delicious autumnal-flavored dishes and desserts that can be hard to find elsewhere in Paris. 3. B.BETTER Paris isn’t known for having the best Mexican or Latin cuisine – as French people often refer to “burritos” as “tacos”, and lack sufficient seasoning or spices to replicate an authentic taste. Luckily, there’s an incredible vegan place in Paris that offers delicious, vegan Mexican-style dishes – B.Better. Located in the charismatic St. Paul district of Paris, B. Better is one of my ultimate favorite places in Paris for a few reasons. For starters, the ambiance couldn’t be cuter – it’s your typical hole-in-the-wall place that you would never know exists if you didn’t already know to look for it. Furthermore, B. Better has always kept the same staff – something that is rare with any restaurant or coffee shop in Paris. The waiters here couldn’t be nicer, always accommodate for English, and offer incredible food. Address: 26 Rue Beautreillis, 75004 Paris Price: €€ Pro-tip: Be sure to order the Portobello Mushroom Burger and their smashed potatoes – their in-house garlic mayo is incredible. 4. BLOOM SUSHI If you’ve been a fan of my blog, you would know that I’m a sucker for vegan sushi – like Beyond Sushi in New York City. In Paris, Asian cuisine is big – but finding vegan sushi can be a challenge. Luckily, Bloom Sushi is everything you can imagine – offering innovative sushi dishes and Asian-inspired tapas. In addition to this, the atmosphere is charming – with its earth-toned terrace and cross bohemian and upscale atmosphere – it’s one of my favorite places to sit for a late summer dinner. Address: 99 Rue Jouffroy d'Abbans, 75017 Paris Price: €€ Pro-tip: Don’t miss out on their cauliflower tempura or lobster crunch roll – both are out of this world. 5. MARCUS PIZZA AMORE One of the newer vegan places I have discovered in Paris, Marcus Pizza Amore is the perfect place to meet with friends – as they offer both vegan and non-vegan pizzas alike. I have tried several vegan places, from Nice to Chicago – but this one is truly the best. It’s located in the 10th arrondissment in between Bastille and Belleville – it’s perfectly situated in one of the most youthful, vibey places to be in Paris. Address: 4 Rue Bichat, 75010 Paris Price: €€ Pro-tip: Don’t miss out on their cauliflower tempura or lobster crunch roll – both are out of this world. BEST PLACES FOR CAUSAL VEGAN EATS IN PARIS 1. MAOZ FALAFEL While everyone in Paris always raves about L’as du Falafel in Le Marais (and it’s true, it is amazing) – what many people don’t realize is that Paris is filled the amazing falafel places. One of the best ones is Maoz Falafel, which offers some of the best falafel I’ve had at cheap, student-friendly prices not far from the Latin Quarter. Address: 36 Rue Saint-André des Arts, 75006 Paris Price: € Pro-tip: Since there isn’t a lot of seating here, I recommend taking your falafel to the seine for the perfect Parisian-picnic! 2. CANTINE DE LOTUS While this place isn’t entirely vegan, a lot of the menu offers vegan options – including bento boxes and their incredible vegan bao buns. If you love Asian food and cute, cozy places – be sure to not miss this spot. Address: 7 Rue de la Michodière, 75002 Paris Price: € Pro-tip: Try to be there for lunch as early as possible, as this place always has a long line! 3. LA CANTINE DE SAM One time when looking for a a place to eat near my office, I stumbled across this little gem – which offers incredible Mediterranean style bowls and dishes. While it’s true that it’s hard to mess up Mediterranean food, La Cantine de Sam really is exceptional – with exceptionally delicious flavors and balanced meals tha

THE FRIENDLY KITCHEN (RESTAURANT) Location: 8 Rue Popincourt Budget: €€€ The Friendly Kitchen was the first vegan restaurant we tried, and it was the perfect start! Located in the trendy Le Marais district, this charming restaurant offers a menu brimming with innovative plant-based dishes. From their flavorful coconut and sesame-crusted tofu – which I can highly recommend – to their delicate beetroot and strawberry tartar, The Friendly Kitchen delights you with its creative and delicious offerings. What I truly love about this restaurant is its strong commitment to using organic, fresh, and locally sourced ingredients. They take pride in selecting the freshest produce, supporting local farmers, and prioritizing sustainability. Their menu reflects this by offering dishes that change with the seasons, ensuring that you can savor the flavors of each time of year. Since it’s a very well-known and beloved dinner spot, it’s usually full in the evening, so make sure you reserve a table in advance! 2. CLOUD CAKES (CAFÉ) Location: 6 Rue Mandar Budget: €€ Cloud Cakes is the perfect example that being vegan in Paris is an absolute delight. This vegan bakery/café serves all the French pastries and sweets your heart might desire. Whether it’s plant-based croissants, macarons, cupcakes, muffins, or cakes, you get it all. We went there for breakfast, and I ordered their “Sweet Morning Toast”, toasted pieces of bread with chocolate spread and banana, whereas my boyfriend went for a classical avocado toast. Accompanied by a delicious oat milk latte for me and an oat milk cappuccino for my boyfriend, and the day was off to a good start! Because we had to wait quite a bit for our food (they were training a new chef), the lovely waitress brought us two small cupcakes as an apology. It was seriously such a sweet gesture! 3. AUJOURD’HUI DEMAIN (RESTAURANT & CAFÉ) Location: 42 Rue du Chemin Vert Budget: €€ Aujourd’hui Demain is a unique and vibrant vegan restaurant, coffee shop, and concept store located in the heart of Paris. The menu boasts a diverse range of dishes, from hearty vegan burgers to colorful Buddha bowls, all made with fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Moreover, it offers plant-based interpretations of classic dishes, such as vegan “boeuf” bourguignon or Caesar salad. I chose the latter for a late brunch and my boyfriend tried the breakfast pancakes, a combination of pancakes, vegan sausages, tofu scramble, vegan bacon, and potatoes. Right next to the restaurant area inside, you’ll find a curated selection of eco-friendly and cruelty-free products, ranging from clothing and accessories to cosmetics and household items. So, after you’ve filled your belly with delicious vegan food, take some more time to check out all the great stuff they have in the store section! 4. KITCHEN (CAFÉ) Location: 74 Rue des Gravilliers Budget: €€ If you’re looking for a hip, laid-back brunch spot, Kitchen is the place to be! Located in the 3rd arrondissement close to major sightseeing spots such as Le Centre Pompidou, one of the best museums in France, or Notre Dame, Kitchen is the perfect place for a hearty brunch before exploring the city. On the menu, you find healthy smoothies, organic coffee, healthy breakfast bowls, pancakes, or, if you prefer something salty, soups, salads, and veggie stew. Although it’s not an entirely vegan but vegetarian restaurant, almost 80% of its dishes are completely plant-based or can be made so. 5. BODHI VEGAN (RESTAURANT) Location: 23 Av. Claude Vellefaux Budget: € As a vegan in Paris, you have the choice to dine in a huge number of restaurants, all offering different cuisines from all over the world. Of course, there are also enough places that specialize in Asian cuisine. Probably the best place to indulge in Vietnamese & Southeast Asian cuisine is Bodhi Vegan. This cozy and inviting restaurant serves an array of innovative and diverse vegan creations from Asian culinary traditions, such as stir-fries, dumplings, and sushi. In addition to its main focus on Asian cuisine, Bodhi Vegan also offers vegan versions of traditional French dishes and even a hearty cheeseburger with fries! Why not try one of their delightful desserts to round out your meal? From decadent vegan chocolate cakes to creamy cheesecakes, their homemade sweet treats are the perfect way to satisfy your cravings. You see, Bodhi Vegan offers a variety of dishes, from appetizers to desserts, and therefore guarantees a truly exceptional vegan dining experience for every taste! 6. LE POTAGER DE CHARLOTTE (RESTAURANT) Location: 12 Rue Louise-Émilie de la Tour d’Auvergne & 21 Rue Rennequin Budget: €€€ With 100% vegan cuisine, flavorful ingredients, and nicely arranged dishes, Le Potager de Charlotte is the epitome of gourmet plant-based dining. The restaurant has two locations, one in the 9th arrondissement and the other in the 17th arrondissement. We went to the one in the 17th arrondissement, the menu is the same for both. The first restaurant was opened in 2015 by two brothers who are passionate about health, the environment, and animal rights. After it became a major success, they decided to open a second one in 2019. At Le Potager de Charlotte, they only use local, organic ingredients as well as 100% homemade recipes created by the chef himself. From starters to mains and desserts, every single dish is not only a feast for the eyes but incredibly delicious! As a starter, we ordered sesame-marinated tofu (since we loved it at The Friendly Kitchen already), and as a main course, I chose hazelnut mashed potatoes, and my boyfriend went for rigatoni basil & balsamic cream. To top it all off, we then ordered lemon cashew cream with blueberry coulis and berries. It was fantastic! 7. BREATHE MONTORGUEIL (RESTAURANT) Location: 3 Rue Mandar Budget: €€ Have you ever been to a fully vegan sushi bar? If not, now’s your chance! (And even if you have been, it sure wasn’t as great as this one. Don’t miss it, seriously.) brEAThe Montorgueil is a Japanese restaurant with a big focus on plant-based and homemade Sushi. But of course, they don’t serve just your normal “boring” standard sushis like avocado or cucumber. No, on the menu, you find extraordinary creations like Maki with tempeh and BBQ sauce, an “Oriental Crispy” version (not gonna tell what it is), or, my absolute favorite, Maki with seitan, grilled baby corn, and green Thai sauce. We ordered four different types of Sushi, Edamame, a Negroni for my boyfriend, and a fruity Mocktail for me. Everything was incredibly tasty and really filling as well! 8. URBAN GREENER (CAFÉ) Location: 30 Rue Muller Budget: € I’m truly a sucker for cozy, relaxed vegan cafés and if I feel super comfortable in one, I could spend hours doing
