Café Lomi - Paris

To drink a latte, worthy of the name, then undoubtedly Café Lomi is a must-visit, when in Paris. Situated in the 18th district, the coffee shop is a landmark with its timeless and unusual façade. Behind the unassuming front, visitors are welcomed into an atmosphere that many call ‘brooklynian’ – the combination between industrial and vintage design. The space is vast and the beans, from all over the world, are roasted on site and the offering changes according to the season. Here, espressos and lattes adopt the aromas of orange peel, milk chocolate or a mixture of blueberries and dark chocolate – to mention but a few. In reality, each coffee bean perfectly accompanies, and compliments, one form of coffee or another. Each bean has its true calling. For the latte, the Baristas of Café Lomi favour beans from the Yigacheffe region of Ethiopia. There, the beans dry with their cherries which provides an incomparable fruity flavour. Just as restaurants cook their signature dish, Café Lomi also offers a signature assembly, nicely called La goutte d’or (the golden drop). The house defines this as ”a well-balanced espresso, round and dense with notes of black cherries and an aftertaste of chocolate.” The roaster developed a range of coffees with beans from Brazil, Costa Rica and Ethiopia, among others. Perhaps you feel a little hungry while at Café Lomi, then why not enjoy a salad, sandwich or savour a homemade pastry. If you have a little bit more time, try their brunch menu. If art of coffee fascinates you and you have time to discover its secrets during your stay in Paris, you can also participate to Lomi’s workshop. During the 3 hour course, learn the culture of coffee, how to make the espresso and prepare a latte, as well as much more. Lomi — Café Review | Condé Nast Traveler

Okay, you’ve just walked in. First impressions? Even from the outside, you know you're in a much different kind of space in a much different neighborhood than most Parisian coffee shops. Lomi, one of the city's premier coffee roasters, occupies the ground floor of a modern building designed for social housing in a developing section of the eighteenth arrondissement. Inside, though, it's high-design exposed stone walls, reclaimed wood tables, and vintage chairs. Who else was there? The calming environment attracts young professionals or students at work. Since the training space and tasting room are on-site, you're likely to cross paths with coffee distributors and industry folk. The raison d’être: the coffee. How was it? All the usuals, from lattes to expertly pulled espresso, plus some wildcards like café fromage—double espresso served with blue cheese (nibble on the small piece, sip the espresso, and let it melt the cheese in your mouth; you'll be surprised how well they pair). Was there food, too, and if so, worth getting? Simple savory snacks and hearty sweets (croissants and scones in the morning, cookies and other treats in the afternoon). How about the staff: what did you think? The staff were focused and professional, not very chatty. Who should go here? If you're conducting a coffee crawl to see the city's major players, Lomi is a must.
