LIRE MOINS...

September 4, 2023, 9:41pm 1 We ate at Mova, in the Batignolles quarter, and it was excellent. My bolg piece is here. 2 Likes Deuxchevaux (Jake D) September 4, 2023, 9:51pm 2 Thanks for this review, and I will now know to ask for “un seau.” (We’ve had that problem many times — all over France, and certainly in Paris: Red wines served too warm / insufficiently cool are very unpleasant.) PeterCL (Peter) September 6, 2023, 2:18pm 3 Thanks for the write-up, Onzième. Mova is one of a number of really good restaurants in the area. This quartier is where we happily settled into for a month last fall and we’ll be there again for more than a month this fall. onzieme September 6, 2023, 8:23pm 4 Indeed, lots of good places at both ends of the rue des Dames and vicinity. Including Janine, that I wrote up here. PeterCL (Peter) September 7, 2023, 1:13pm 5 Plus a number of really good places going “north” to and including Coretta up by the MLK parc (one of John Talbott’s favorites). Re: Janinie, again thanks for the write-up. It opened after we had left last year and because of your write-up was on my “to do” list for this year, until . . . . it was included in the recent NYT Six Paris Places to Try Now article . . . and immediately, the restaurant was inundated with 80 reservation requests from the FOMO crowd and the owner had to send someone out to get the menu translated into English. I hope that nonsense has passed by the time we settle in next month. If not, lots of others that we really like. 1 Like VaPaula (Paula ) July 6, 2025, 8:57am 6 We had a fabulous dinner here Friday night. Thanks, onzieme, and others who mentioned it in other threads. We eat lunch out far more than dinner, for several reasons, but it’s hard to pass up a €45 dinner menu. We typically don’t go for wine pairings, either, but decided to make it an atypical evening all around. Watermelon & ponzu - my new favorite combo. The textures in this dish were just wonderful. The watermelon, firm; the cheese so creamy. The pairing was perfect, and the wine developed different flavors with each bite. Trad food is not my normal go-to, but quenelles are one exception. This was anything but trad, and my only complaint is I wish there were more! Underneath the foamy bisque was a light, little pillowy cloud of a cod quenelle. Heaven. Sorry about the wine pairing pic - just a label, no name. We enjoyed this one as well. Next up was the canette atop polenta. Those little mustard seeds popped & crackled in my mouth (fun!) & the duck was cooked perfectly. Not only was this my least favorite pairing, it was a complete fail - for me, anyway. My husband thought it fine. I’m not even going to post the pic because it is so blurred, it might hurt your eyes. I think it was after I dropped my phone on the floor, thus exposing myself as a loud American. Oops. But it was a La Commanderie de L’Hospital Bordeaux 2016. Me, I would have paired a red Burgundy with this, but I’m no wine expert. And finally, dessert. Underneath the yogurt were 3 beautifully plump apricots. We really liked this dessert wine, and it played especially well with the salty peanuts & sweet apricots. The service was warm, friendly and efficient. Both servers did a nice job explaining the dishes & the wine. Mova is already on our “go back to” list. 5 Likes Lynncn (Lynn) July 26, 2025, 8:02am 7 Thanks to both Onzième and VaPaula for their reviews on Mova— we went July 16 for dinner, same tasting menu as Paula. Her review was spot on- the food and the service - impeccable! Thank you hungry onion, so nice to see familiar names on the board— I remember the days where I was a devotee of the chowhound board while living in Geneva CH(2005-2014)— planning outings to Paris based on reviews! 2 Likes VaPaula (Paula ) July 26, 2025, 3:17pm 8 So glad you liked it! Thanks for chiming in. jmc167 (John Cummings) July 28, 2025, 1:12am 9 @onzieme, @VaPaula and @Lynncn - thanks so much, this is added to the list and cannot wait to be back in Paris for 10 weeks in late August, just in time for la rentrée!! 1 Like sfcarole (Carole) August 7, 2025, 10:16pm 10 Ten weeks - I’m green with envy!
